Description:
Port Everglades Cruise Terminal 21 at Port Everglades was originally built in 1967. To keep up with the demand for increased passenger cruising and larger, more elegant cruise ships, it was renovated and expanded several times over the years. The most recent renovation was engineered by DeRose Design Consultants and resulted in a world-class facility able to accommodate the newest breed of megaships and a much larger volume of cruise line passengers.
The Cruise Terminal 21 reconstruction added 33,000 square feet of enclosed air- conditioned space and another 33,000 square feet of unenclosed activity space. These areas included a covered passenger drop-off area, fully air-conditioned passenger seating area, restrooms, mezzanine, elevators, escalator, duty-free concession, snack bar and hydraulically-powered and covered passenger loading bridge, all of which are handicapped accessible. The renovated elevated terminal attached to the existing facility became the passenger ticketing and waiting area with new escalators, elevators and restrooms.
Additionally, an elevated, covered pedestrian bridge was added that connects the existing Midport Parking Garage to the new Terminal 21. And, DeRose Design Consultants updated and renovated the central air-conditioning plant by adding an ice storage component to maximize energy efficiency that levels off high and low speeds.
