Description:
Since welcoming its first cruise ship in 1931, Port Everglades in eastern Broward County has grown into the third busiest cruise port in the world by continually evolving. Its most recent incarnation saw changes to the Port Everglades Operations Center, the Harbormaster Tower and Midport Parking Garage.
Under the talented leadership of the engineers at DeRose Design Consultants responsible for all five disciplines of engineering, which include civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing, the proud Fort Lauderdale seaport is once again a vital and vibrant center for trade and tourism.
The Port Everglades Operations Center and Harbormaster Tower is a nine-story modern lighthouse-like building that offers a panoramic 270-degree view of the 2,190-acre stretch of waterways that make up Port Everglades and its surrounding communities.
The Operations Center, designed to remain functioning in post-disaster situations, is equipped with the latest technology in radar and security systems to monitor and operate all of the ports navigable waters and its berthing facilities. It boasts hurricane resistance strength as well as full stand-by and backup power.
The Harbormaster Tower, which serves as the information source for all the seaports patrons, is topped with a 75-foot high communications monopole that houses state-of-the-art security cameras, navigational and weather monitoring devices to provide real-time information on ship scheduling, berthing, traffic flow, etc.
The Midport Parking Garage was also renovated into its present six-story structure, which added three additional floors and doubled its parking capacity to 2,000 spaces. There is also an added enclosed pedestrian bridge that connects from the garage to Cruise Terminal 26.
