Description:
The City of Hollywood Fire Station 74 is a signature fire, rescue and communications facility engineered by DeRose Design Consultants. It was created as a state-of-the-art, post-disaster operations facility and has become the one by which other fire stations are judged. Most recently, it was awarded “Best Working Fire Station Nationwide’ by Fire Chief Magazine.
The three-story, 40,000-square-foot facility houses not only a new fire station, but also an emergency dispatch center, city emergency operations center, fire department administration and training facilities. It was designed to withstand Hurricane Category 5 160 mph winds and includes full standby and back-up power with an emergency generator as well as fully functional communications center for post-storm operations. All communication systems are located on the second floor to protect against potential flooding, which enables it to be manned 24 hours a day before, during and after a hurricane by up to 100 people.
Designed in concert with the Mediterranean-styled surrounding neighborhoods, it features individual sleeping quarters with lockers and desks; a stainless-steel commercial kitchen; multipurpose room for public meetings; exercise room; conference room; station office and watch office. The four double apparatus, drive-through bays accommodate the maximum of eight 40-foot fire service vehicles.
