Description:
The Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center located at 1950 Eisenhower Boulevard at the northern end of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale was heralded at its opening in 1991 and soon thereafter, had to be expanded to keep up with the tremendous growth throughout South Florida.
The structural and civil engineering of the Convention Center was entrusted to renowned city engineers DeRose Design Consultants and included the addition of 50,000 square feet of exhibition space with 180-foot-long elevated steel trusses; more meeting rooms; larger pre-function space in the grand lobby; new administrative offices, and an elevated, climate-controlled pedestrian skywalk on the second floor leading to the parking garage.
Today, the three-story, Broward County Convention Center boasts a total of 370,000-square-feet over 17 acres. It features a floor-to-ceiling glass wall with panoramic vistas of the sparkling Intracoastal Waterway, the shimmering City of Fort Lauderdale and a stunning 1.3-acre fountain plaza with 35-foot bronze sailfish sculpture. It contains 150,000 square feet of exhibit space; a 20,000-square-foot ballroom; 34,000 square feet of meeting rooms; 53,000 square feet of pre-function/registration space; 12,000 square feet of food-service area, and 19 covered loading docks.
